Student loan update: what to do now
Forgiveness, taxes, SAVE, and Parent PLUS
I brought Adam back on for a student loan update, and this one is packed.
The big thing I want to make sure hits your radar: if you have Parent PLUS Loans and haven’t consolidated yet, now is the time to get that done.
The consolidation needs to be completed by June 30th, but since the process can take a few months, April 1st is really the last safe window to submit your application.
After that you’re in the danger zone.
And honestly, there’s no real reason to wait — I’d start the process now.
Beyond that, we get into a lot. We cover:
-
Loan forgiveness under ICR and Pay As You Earn finally moving again
-
Whether your forgiveness in 2026 is taxable (and who’s protected)
-
What SAVE borrowers should do before the plan ends and millions rush to switch
-
The new RAP plan — what it offers and where the trade-offs are
-
Borrower defense updates for post-class applicants still stuck in limbo
A lot is happening and some of it requires you to act soon. Give it a watch.

I found my daily driver. The Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series Principe Maduro. It’s a quick 30-45 minute stick, which makes it perfect for catching a season 2 episode of Cross on Prime with the fellas at the lounge. Any recommendations on where to get a box for the best price?
On the bourbon side, I’ve been drinking less lately, but I recently got into the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Rye A126. It has a bite up front but smooths out beautifully. Highly recommend if you can find it.
